The Abu Dhabi HomeSchoolers Association is a group of over 40 families, living and homeschooling in the Abu Dhabi emirate of the United Arab Emirates. We are an eclectic group of families with children from pre-school to high school, from many different countries, faiths, and backgrounds. We are inclusive but diverse, and as such encourage members to feel to express themselves freely while respecting that others to not believe or think as they do.

ADHSA's purpose is to impart informal advice, offer support, and provide social interaction to its members by organizing informal gatherings and activities of mutual interest and benefit. Run by volunteers, we are as active as our members to choose to make us.

Our Members

Every year our membership has been made up of  about 35 families from such countries as: Australia, Canada, India, Iraq, Mexico, Pakistan, Sweden, Lebanon, Egypt, the United Kingdom, the United States and the UAE.

Some families have homeschooled their children from the outset, while others have just started homeschooling recently. Students range from pre-kindergarten to high school level all the way up to children who have gone on to university. Families size has varied from one child to five children. Some homeschool only one or two of their children while their others attend traditional school.

Code of Conduct

The ADHSA Code of Conduct, simple and straightforward reflects just apply the Golden Rule: treat others as you would like to be treated.

Pithy and to the point, it is contained in a short cheer, which we strive repeat together at the BEGINNING of every FIELD TRIP/Event as a reminder to everyone:

P -- POSITIVE Words & Attitude

A -- ATTENTION to the speaker

R -- RESPECT people and property

K -- KINDNESS to each other

Our History

From 2004 to 2008 a group of homeschooling parent began meeting unofficially for support.  In October 2008 a Yahoo group titled "In the SHADE" was started to reach others who were interested in support. Later that year the member association began to further support the community.

With the decline of Yahoo In the SHADE and ADHSA have moved to Facebook to provide a place for Abu Dhabi and UAE homeschoolers to communicate with each other. Others in UAE who are interested in homeschooling are welcome to join us on our Facebook page to learn more.

With a dedicated executive committee, annual dues, and a Code of Conduct, ADHSA provides an infrastructure for organizing activities. We are much more together than we are separately. We have energetic and creative members who are always open to putting new ideas into play. In order to share the burden of running our volunteer organization smoothly, we expect, but do not require, our member families to participate in Parents Nights Out, the formation of clubs, and serving on the executive committee.
